OUR MISSION The unity that MHA The Mississippi Hospital Association promotes

If it’s true that practice makes perfect, after serving as your chairman for two tumultuous years, I should be getting close. It has been an honor and a privilege to represent you and your hospital in what indeed has been a trying time for our hospitals and the state of health care in our state. It has been two years full of challenges – both political and financial – for all of us. But it has also reminded me – and all of us, I hope - of what we can accomplish working together through our association. In the midst of the turmoil, we did have a few strategic successes that we all need to remember. We accomplished full funding of Medicaid for 2007-08 without increasing the gross revenue tax (GRT). We increased trauma care funding through the work of our Trauma Care Task Force. On the national level, we continued to work in conjunction with the American Hospital Association to preserve Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP funding. We also worked to increase member involvement in grassroots efforts and the Mississippi Hospital Association Political Action Committee to ensure that Mississippi hospitals could play an integral part in all of these issues. In addition, a key component of the association’s strategic planning is to continue to build a responsive, adaptive organization. And the past two years have given us much practice and, I believe, success. The MHA board and staff are proud to be serving those who Together, we can make a difference. Sincerely, James G. Chastain
